Buon Ferragosto a Tutti! Ferragosto is on August 15 and is a day off in Italy that has its origins from 1 century AD when Octavianus Augustus is said to have established several festive days in the month of August to mark a moment of pause for agricultural labor during the hottest month of the year. Since ferragosto falls in the middle of the summer, it is a time when most Italians go on vacation, either abroad or taking the day to leave the city and get respite from the heat on the beach or in mountainous locations.
