Full-Time Italian Lecturer at University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, MI

The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures (RLL) invites applications for a Lecturer I position in the Italian section of the Elementary Language Program (ELP) beginning on August 28, 2023, and run through April 30, 2024.

With a history dating back to 1846, RLL is one of the longest-running departments in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA). We offer four undergraduate majors, four undergraduate minors, and three doctoral degrees. In addition to these degree programs, the ELP teaches the majority of UM-Ann Arbor?s undergraduate students whose school or college has a language requirement.

This position is responsible for teaching three sections in the ELP per semester under the supervision of one or more Course Coordinators. In addition, Lecturers are expected to attend course meetings, hold office hours, and handle routine matters related to instruction.

The department has a strong commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and actively seeks to teach not only the languages and cultures of France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain but also the legacy of their colonial activities across the globe. The Italian section seeks to teach Italian as a global language in a way that decenters Italy and offers a more expansive perspective of the Italian world. For more information about the department?s programs, mission, and values, please visit www.lsa.umich.edu/rll.

This is a full-time, in-person position with the possibility of renewal.
