Promoting proficiency takes the language beyond the classroom and opens professional, academic and personal doors of opportunity. Connecting our curricula’s objectives to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) assists our students in seeking entrance into Italian universities, citizenship and employment.
For this workshop we are pleased to welcome Elena Monami and Caterina Gennai from the Università per Stranieri di Siena (UNISTRASI) who will discuss the theoretical, methodological and practical aspects of language instruction in order to obtain the DITALS BASE Certification.
DITALS BASE Certification is offered by the Università per Stranieri di Siena (UNISTRASI) and attests to the instructor’s theoretical and practical preparation in the field of teaching Italian to nonnative speakers. It indicates the instructor’s possession of an initial competence in teaching Italian to nonnative speakers. The DITALS BASE Certification is targeted at individuals whose native languages are different from Italian and who are preparing to carry out the role of teaching Italian as a second language. The workshop is also devised so that instructors of all levels of experience and language backgrounds can benefit from the training; everyone is welcome.
The 12-hour workshop, conducted in person in Los Angeles with an online option, includes theoretical and methodological aspects of language instruction and teaching Italian to nonnative speakers, group work and sample exams for DITALS Certification. The workshop will be conducted in Italian.

About ILT
This annual workshop at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles is an occasion for Italian language instructors from Southern California and beyond to come together to discuss teaching Italian at the novice and/or intermediate levels and topics related to the discipline. We designed this conference with the intention that participants will exchange materials such as actual lesson plans, activities, short video-clips of themselves interacting with their students, language acquisition technologies, materials, best practices, and strategies that they incorporate in their classrooms. Our hope is that all participants in this workshop will walk away with ideas and materials that they can immediately implement in their courses and will have the opportunity to make real connections Funding for the event is provided by the Istituto italiano di Cultura Los Angeles and USC Dornsife Center for Languages and Cultures.
