Join us for an introduction to the Calabrian dialect and culture with UCLA Linguistics professor Dr. Giuseppina Silvestri. In this engaging one-hour online workshop, participants will explore the rich linguistic and cultural traditions of Calabria through its vibrant regional dialect, shaped by centuries of Greek, Latin, Spanish, and southern Italian influences. Participants will learn common Calabrian words and phrases, discover how the dialect differs from standard Italian, and hear authentic pronunciation through interactive examples and conversation. Along the way, the workshop will offer cultural insights into family life, food, music, and everyday traditions from southern Italy.
