Now in its fourth year, the Festival is a one-of-a-kind cultural event that brings the tradition of Italian comedy to Hollywood while spotlighting new voices shaping its future. “The Italian Comedy Fest is an itinerant festival designed to carry Italian comedy from its roots all the way to Hollywood,” explains Artistic Director Gianfranco Terrin. “Each year we renew a simple promise: to celebrate the rich tradition of Italian comedy while creating space for the new voices writing it today. Comedy, in all its lightness, has always been a powerful way to reflect society and its changes.” This year’s godmother is actress Marina Suma, an iconic face of 1980s Italian cinema. In addition to her role as godmother, Suma will also appear in Max Nardari’s Amici per caso, premiering in Los Angeles during the Festival. The film competition will feature Nardari’s film alongside Anxious by Nida Chowdhry, Arthur’s Whisky by Stephen Cookson (with Diane Keaton, Patricia Hodge, and Boy George), and Una vita da sogno – L’Abbaglio by Alessandra Cardone, starring Andrea Simonetti, Denise Tantucci, and Christopher Backus, also in its U.S. premiere.

The short film program spans Italy, the U.S., Spain, France, and Switzerland, including titles such as Miss Postura (Luca Turco), Mierda (David Fernández Pastor), Under the influence(r) (Alberto Accettulli), Sharing is caring (Vincenzo Mauro), La Vénus au fil de fer (Vincent Hazard), Make Me Italian (Bryan Mazzarello), Mercato Libero (Giuseppe Cacace), Goddamn it! (Yann Cado & Julien Ordan), Time to Kill (Vincent Ferrari), L’Acquario (Gianluca Zonta), Emily’s Mountain (Tal Somech), and Amore Nostalgia (Marco Pozzato). The Festival will also spotlight theater with the U.S. premiere of Tutti bene ma non benissimo, written, directed, and performed by Daniele Vagnozzi, winner of the “Comedy Beyond Borders – Commedia Oltre Confine” Award, produced by MarcheTeatro in collaboration with Sparta Production and Compagnia Caterpillar.
